Japanese Chip Stocks Surge on Micron’s Outlook and Rising AI Demand

Micron Sparks Rally in Japanese Semiconductor Stocks with Strong Demand Forecast

Shares of Japanese chipmakers surged, driven by optimistic forecasts from Micron Technology regarding demand for AI-related semiconductors.

Lasertec shares rose nearly 10%, Advantest by 8%, and Taiyo Yuden by 8.3%, while Tokyo Electron climbed 6% and TDK rose 5.5%.

The gains followed Micron’s announcement of quarterly revenue of $54.23 billion and a forecast of $61.50 billion for the upcoming quarter, both exceeding market expectations. Long-term supply agreements also rose to $32 billion, alongside sustained strong demand for high-bandwidth memory used in AI data centers.

Gains in the semiconductor sector pushed the Nikkei index up by approximately 2.8% to 68,606.81 points.
