Google Plans to Move Pixel Device Production Out of China by 2027

Google Plans to End Pixel Production in China

Google intends to end production of its Pixel phones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds in China by 2027, as part of a plan to diversify its supply chains and mitigate the risks posed by trade tensions between the US and China.

According to Nikkei Asia, Google plans to manufacture all Pixel devices outside of China starting next year, with increased reliance on Vietnam and India, following the success of producing high-end Pixel phones in Vietnam.

This would make Google the second major smartphone brand, after Samsung, to move its production away from China.

The company expects Pixel shipments to grow by 8% to 10% this year, compared to approximately 12 million units last year, despite rising memory chip costs.

Google is also consolidating its memory chip purchases for its phone and cloud computing divisions to strengthen its negotiating position with suppliers such as Micron Technology, Samsung, and SK Hynix.
