What is the Bank of England ?

The Bank of England is the second oldest central bank in the world, it was founded in 1694 as a government bank.

The bank's authority covers the whole of the United Kingdom, which includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The monetary policy committee of the Central Bank of England includes nine members: the governor, two deputy governors, two bank executives, and four experts.

They are appointed by the minister of Finance .

The committee meets monthly and sets the interest rate for the British pound.

The current governor of the bank is Andrew Bailey.
