Nvidia Acquires Prominent Open-Source AI Platform

DA Davidson reports that Nvidia has acquired Hugging Face, a platform specializing in open-source AI models and tools. This move appears defensive, aimed at protecting the open-source AI ecosystem and preventing its dominance by major players like Google or competing AI labs.

Hugging Face's annual operating revenue is estimated at around $150 million, comparable to GitHub before its acquisition by Microsoft. The platform recently participated in a security demonstration with OpenAI to highlight vulnerabilities associated with AI proxies.

In contrast, Anthropic is pursuing a different strategy through its partnership with Salesforce to promote the adoption of its models by enterprise customers. DA Davidson believes that the continued growth of open-source AI will benefit major semiconductor companies and cloud computing providers.
