McDonald's closes offices of some company headquarters in preparation for layoffs

McDonald's has yet to reveal how many workers will be affected but the company employs nearly 45,000 people in the U.S. via the company's offices and company-owned restaurants.

The company closed some of its U.S. offices Monday through Wednesday as the company laid off workers, according to an internal email seen by CNBC.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the news on Sunday evening.

CEO Chris Kempinski also announced last January that the company would be cutting its jobs as part of a broader restructuring of the company. McDonald's has yet to reveal how many workers will be laid off, but the company has told employees they will be notified from Monday through Wednesday,

In the internal email, McDonald's said it would close its U.S. offices for those three days for the convenience and privacy of employees, as well as for timing because it's a busy travel week before Easter.

The company also declined to comment to CNBC.
