The global price of gold

The precious metal rose on Tuesday to USD 3,402, its highest level in 5 weeks, before its gains were reversed to trade at USD 3,383 per ounce.

Traders are now looking forward to the deadline for imposing tariffs on the first of August, as President Trump has threatened to impose comprehensive tariffs of 30% on European imports if no agreement is reached.

EU officials are already preparing a wider range of countermeasures.

On the other hand, the ECB is expected to keep interest rates at 2.0% at the conclusion of its meeting on Thursday.

Speaking of the Federal Reserve, its Chairman Jerome Powell is scheduled to give a speech on Tuesday at a conference in Washington.

Trump also made fiery statements about his dismissal, albeit unlikely, but they make traders monitor the situation very carefully.

Even without raising any tensions, Powell's tone may move the markets, especially if he tends to caution before the Federal Open Market Committee meeting next week, then expect further rises in gold prices and a decline in the value of the dollar.
