The global price of gold

Gold prices are stabilizing near their historical highs on Thursday around the levels of 3750 dollars per ounce, as gold prices recorded a new historical peak this week at the levels of 3790 dollars per ounce.

Demand remains strong, supported by expectations of a further reduction in interest rates by the Federal Reserve, and continuing geopolitical tensions in Ukraine.

Attention is now turning to a series of speeches by Fed officials later today, and the release of the US personal consumption expenditures inflation report tomorrow Friday, both of which may affect market bets on monetary policy.

Investors are currently expecting a 25 basis point cut to the federal funds rate next month, followed by another cut in December.

On the other hand, Bloomberg reported that China is seeking to position itself as a custodian of foreign sovereign gold reserves, a move that could strengthen its influence in the global bullion market.
