The global price of gold

Gold prices fell on Monday with the start of the week's trading for the second day in a row, and gold futures also fell to reach levels of 3,418 dollars per ounce, after having reached an all-time high last Friday at 3,534 dollars per ounce.

After a state of confusion about possible US tariffs on the precious metal. The US Customs authorities allegedly classified the kilogram and 100-ounce ingots as subject to import duties, although the White House said it would issue a clarification on this, as this contradicts an earlier exemption in April.

The markets are now turning to Tuesday's inflation data for hints about the US Federal Reserve's course towards easing monetary policy, as low interest rates usually enhance the attractiveness of non-interest-yielding gold.
