The global price of gold
Gold is rising strongly for the seventh week in a row after setting a new historical record on Thursday near the levels of 3896 dollars per ounce, as the US government shutdown increased the uncertainty in the macroeconomic outlook, as gold briefly hit a record high earlier in the week before falling due to profit-taking, although its sharp rise made it technically overbought.
The US government shutdown also delays the release of key labor market and inflation data, complicating the Fed's decision-making process on monetary policy.
However, the markets still expect two more interest rate cuts this year, which enhances the attractiveness of gold as a non-yielding asset.
