The global price of gold
Gold prices fell on Tuesday to 3,317 dollars per ounce, the lowest level in two weeks, as markets assessed the sustainability of the ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
The two sides agreed on a temporary ceasefire after exchanging strikes since last week, but reports of new Iranian missile launches this morning raised doubts about the validity of the truce and reinforced fears of a resumption of the conflict soon.
This came after the exchange of strikes between Iran and the United States reduced collateral damage and paved the way for a period of apparent calm, reducing the attractiveness of gold as a safe haven and preventing the metal from retesting record highs of USD 3,500 in late April.
