Bitcoin Rises After U.S. Elections and Positive Inflows into Crypto Funds
Bitcoin regained its upward momentum during yesterday’s trading, maintaining its price above the $80,000 level, supported by improved investor sentiment following the Democratic Party’s victories in the U.S. midterm elections, along with the return of investment inflows to spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs following a wave of redemptions.
Bitcoin rose 0.3% to $80,400, continuing its recovery after posting its best daily performance since September 21 on Wednesday, as U.S. stocks rallied and oil prices fell, which helped boost investor appetite for high-risk assets.
This recovery came after the cryptocurrency faced initial selling pressure following the release of the first U.S. election results, before regaining its gains as uncertainty eased and market sentiment improved.
Bitcoin and Ethereum Funds Attract $128 Million
The return of investments to U.S. cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) reinforced signs of a market recovery, as spot Bitcoin and Ethereum funds recorded total net inflows of $127.6 million during Wednesday’s trading session.
Spot Bitcoin funds attracted $74.6 million in investments, while Ethereum funds drew in approximately $53 million.
These inflows brought an end to a three-session streak of outflows from Bitcoin funds, totaling $1.16 billion, and halted a seven-day wave of outflows from Ethereum funds totaling approximately $657 million.
The return of investment inflows signals a relative improvement in institutional and investor appetite for digital assets, following a wave of selling pressure that affected the cryptocurrency market during previous sessions.
U.S. Midterm Elections Boost Investor Optimism
The results of the U.S. midterm elections contributed to improved sentiment in financial markets after the Democrats made significant gains, which had a positive impact on U.S. stocks and digital assets.
Analysts believe that the reduction in uncertainty following the elections helped Bitcoin recoup some of its losses, particularly as investor appetite for high-risk assets improved.
However, the potential impact of the election results on the cryptocurrency sector remains a topic of debate, particularly regarding future legislation and regulations for digital assets in light of political shifts within Congress.
Institutional Flows and Liquidity Determine Bitcoin’s Direction
Analysts believe that the U.S. election results are not the only factor behind Bitcoin’s movements, as cash liquidity, institutional investment flows, and investor risk appetite remain the main drivers of cryptocurrency prices.
They note that markets had largely priced in the likelihood of a Democratic victory before the election, which meant that the easing of uncertainty helped fuel the recovery, cautioning against overemphasizing the link between Bitcoin’s movements and the election results alone.
The return of inflows into Bitcoin and Ethereum funds reflects the importance of institutional investments in determining market direction, especially as the role of exchange-traded funds and corporate holdings of cryptocurrencies grows in shaping demand levels and selling pressure.
Bitcoin Price Forecasts Await U.S. Jobs Data
Investors are currently focusing on the U.S. nonfarm payrolls data, scheduled for release on Friday, in search of new signals regarding the strength of the U.S. economy and the likely path of interest rates.
This data could influence dollar movements and liquidity in global markets, and consequently, investor appetite for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
Overall, Bitcoin’s return to trading above $80,000 and the shift of investment flows toward cryptocurrency funds reflect an improvement in market sentiment.
however, the sustainability of the recovery will remain tied to the strength of institutional demand, liquidity developments, and the results of U.S. economic data in the coming period.
