Bitcoin Rises for the Second Day in a Row Ahead of U.S. Inflation Data

Bitcoin and Altcoins Today: Rising Dominance and Mixed Sentiment Ahead of CPI Data

The cryptocurrency market is trading in a mixed range ahead of the release of U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, as Bitcoin attempts to regain upward momentum and its dominance over the cryptocurrency market rises to around 60%, while pressure continues on a large number of altcoins, particularly those with medium market capitalization.

Markets are awaiting September’s U.S. inflation data, looking for new clues regarding the path of monetary policy and interest rates, at a time when high-risk assets are becoming increasingly sensitive to economic developments and global market movements.

Bitcoin Trades Between $83,000 and $84,000

The price of Bitcoin faced repeated resistance near the $87,000 level early last week, before coming under selling pressure that pushed it down to around $80,400 on Thursday—its lowest level in several weeks— after losing about $7,000 over a period of roughly 72 hours.

However, the world’s largest cryptocurrency quickly recouped some of its losses, rising again to the $83,000 level over the weekend, before testing the $84,400 level on Monday morning.

As selling pressure resurfaced, the price temporarily dipped below $81,000 on Tuesday, before recovering once again and surpassing the $83,000 level.

Since then, Bitcoin has been trading in a sideways range between $83,000 and $84,000, with market participants continuing to monitor buyers’ ability to push the price above nearby resistance levels.

Although price movements have been limited recently, Bitcoin forming a higher low could be a positive technical signal if the price manages to maintain this trajectory and break above key resistance levels.

Bitcoin Dominance Rises to 60% as Altcoins Retreat

Bitcoin’s dominance in the cryptocurrency market has risen to about 60%, indicating the largest cryptocurrency’s relatively stronger performance compared to a large number of altcoins.

This rise came at a time when most altcoins faced selling pressure, particularly those with medium market caps, while Bitcoin’s market cap remained relatively stable at around $1.67 trillion, according to the data.

The increase in dominance reflects the widening performance gap between Bitcoin and some altcoins; as the metric tends to rise when Bitcoin holds a larger share of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization, whether due to a decline in rival coins or Bitcoin’s outperformance relative to them.

However, rising dominance does not necessarily mean that Bitcoin is poised for a strong rally, as the market trend remains contingent on price movement, trading volume, and liquidity levels, as well as the impact of U.S. economic data.

Will Bitcoin Reclaim the $84,000 Level?

The $84,000 level represents a pivotal area worth monitoring, as it aligns with the 50-day simple moving average.

Breaking above this level could give buyers an opportunity to regain momentum, provided demand persists and additional technical confirmation emerges.

Failure to break through this level, however, could keep Bitcoin within its current trading range and increase the likelihood of continued volatility.

Conversely, a return to nearby support levels remains crucial for assessing the market’s ability to sustain the recent recovery, especially following the sharp pullback from the $87,000 level.

U.S. Inflation Data Will Determine Market Direction

Investors are turning their attention to the U.S. Consumer Price Index data for September, looking for clues regarding the direction of inflation and its potential impact on the Federal Reserve’s decisions in the coming period.

Weaker-than-expected inflation data could boost hopes for an easing of monetary policy, which might support risk appetite and give Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies a chance to regain momentum.

If, on the other hand, the data comes in higher than expected, concerns about continued tight monetary policy may grow, which could put pressure on high-risk assets.

However, the impact of the inflation data will not be the only factor determining market movement; movements in U.S. Treasury yields and the dollar, along with liquidity levels and trader positions, will remain important factors in determining price direction.
