Bank of Japan Governor Ueda talks about the central bank's digital currency

The governor of the Bank of Japan Kazuo Ueda highlighted at the Fintech Summit on Tuesday the pilot program of the central bank's digital currency (CBDC) launched by the bank in 2023.

In his remarks, Ueda stressed the importance of public discussions in determining the issuance of digital currencies of the central bank for retail sale in Japan. Stressing the need for a comprehensive framework to ensure privacy protection when considering the implementation of the program, he noted that the central bank continues to engage in various efforts to envision the future of the universal payment system.

He also didn't say anything about the economy, wages, inflation, the yen, cash, or anything else that matters to the country's monetary policy.
