Bank of Japan Governor Ueda and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida gathered today

Meetings between the governor and the prime minister are regular. Since Ueda is the newly appointed Governor, this is the first such regular meeting for him.
Bank of Japan governor Ueda says he did not discuss currency market volatility during his meeting with Kishida today, but Kishida asked questions about various aspects of the economy and financial developments.
He also said nothing in particular was discussed today, however added that "the prime minister said he understood very well" the bank's recent decision to lose its grip on long-term interest rates, with the Bank of Japan last July adjusting yield curve control (YCC) to allow long-term interest rates to rise unrestricted.
At that moment, the Foundation stated that the decision was made due to very high uncertainty about economic activity and prices.
