IMF Warns of Risks to Global Growth as Inflation Rises

Georgieva Warns of Global Growth Slowdown

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has warned of persistent risks to global growth driven by rising inflation, energy costs, and public debt, urging central banks to adopt cautious monetary policies.

She noted that global public debt could reach 93.9% of GDP by 2025—with the potential to exceed 100% in the coming years—necessitating restraint in government spending.

She also warned that rising energy prices and massive investments in artificial intelligence could exacerbate economic pressures and financial volatility, while growth is expected to slow in economies affected by geopolitical and energy-related shocks.
